  • Fulani herdsmen express worry over their situation in South Eastern state of Nigeria, Anambra.

  • Through the Miyetti Allah organization, they lament not being able to rent houses to carry out their activities in the state.

  • They list communities such as Anaku, Umueje, Omor, Igbakwu, Omasi, Umumbo, Umuerum, and Ifite-Ogwari in Ayamelum local government council to be denying them of accommodations.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Fulani herdsmen in Anambra State, Nigeria, have expressed concerns over the treatment they are receiving from residents of the state, alleging that they are being denied accommodations and hindering their traditional business.

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), which represents the Fulani herdsmen in the area, disclosed this to journalists over the weekend.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

According to Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, the MACBAN leader in the South East, members of the association are being denied accommodations in several communities in Anambra State, including Anaku, Umueje, Omor, Igbakwu, Omasi, Umumbo, Umuerum, and Ifite-Ogwari in Ayamelum local government council.

Siddiki made this known while addressing dignitaries at Governor Charles Soludo’s one-year Anniversary in office in the state capital, Akwa.

The MACBAN leader said that his members are having a cordial relationship with the locals, but they are experiencing some cases of misunderstanding.

He added that they are interested in the areas for purely economic reasons, and no herder is interested in contesting land ownership with members of their host communities across the state.

Siddiki called on Governor Soludo’s government to intervene urgently for peace and oneness, as much still needs to be done to ensure that law-abiding citizens, including herders, can carry out their businesses without hindrances in the state.

He stated that as cattle breeders, they are asking for a secure environment to do their grazing business.

“Our interest in the areas was purely economic. No herder was interested in contesting the ownership of land with members of their host communities across the state.

“We commended the Police and DSS for their prompt responses whenever there is a conflict between our members and our host communities in the state.” He said.
