Full List: Super Eagles’ Coaches Bayelsa Of Nativity, Including Finidi George, Three Others

Eko Hot Blog reports that Finidi George, the ex-Super Eagles winger, has been named the new head coach of Nigeria’s senior men’s national team, according to an announcement made by the Nigeria Football Federation on Monday, April 29th.

According to a statement from the NFF, its Board has endorsed the recommendation of its Technical and Development Committee to appoint the 52-year-old former Ajax Amsterdam and Real Betis forward as the head coach.

As reported by The Nation, there are four Super Eagles coaches who originate from Bayelsa State.

Hence, this group includes three former coaches and one current coach.

Notably, all four coaches hail from Sagbama Local Government Area in Bayelsa State.

Below are profiles of four prominent Super Eagles coaches from Bayelsa State:

1. Paul Ebiye Hamilton 

Paul Ebiye Hamilton, a Nigerian footballer and manager, passed away in 2017. After retiring as a player, he transitioned into coaching, notably leading the U-20 national team.

Despite being appointed head coach of the Nigeria national football team in 1989.

His tenure was brief due to Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 1990 FIFA World Cup.

However, he later coached the female national team in their inaugural World Cup appearance and earned his UEFA coaching license in 2006.

2. Monday Sinclair

Monday Sinclair, a revered football tactician, played a pivotal role in nurturing talents such as Finidi George and Taribo West.

Starting his coaching career with Sharks FC (now Rivers United), he went on to manage several clubs, including Bayelsa United and Nzalang Nacional in Equatorial Guinea.

Also, he briefly held the position of head coach of the Super Eagles in 1997.

3. Samson Siasia

Former Nigerian professional football striker Samson Siasia held the position of head coach for the Nigeria national team from 2010 to October 2011 and was reinstated in 2016.

However, in August 2019, FIFA imposed a lifetime ban on Siasia from football activities due to a match-fixing inquiry, which was subsequently reduced to five years.

4. Finidi George

Former Nigerian player George Finidi currently holds the position of head coach for the Nigeria national football team.

Recognized as a prominent right winger, he rose to fame at Ajax, notably contributing to their 1995 Champions League triumph, alongside other achievements.

Meanwhile, before wrapping up his playing career with spells in Spain and England. Finidi represented Nigeria in two World Cups during the 1990s.
