The Coup leader, General Brice Oligui Nguema in a television broadcast on Wednesday said Bongo is now free to leave Gabon.
Bongo, who succeeded his father, Omar Bongo, had been in power for 14 years, before his toppling by the military coup of August 30.
The coup d’etat took place just few hours after the party announced Bongo as the winner of the election in the country.
Bongo has been under house arrest since Nguema took over power in the Central African Country.
The Gabon military spokesman, Colonel Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi asserted that: Given his state of health, the former President of the Republic Ali Bongo Ondimba has freedom of movement. He can travel abroad if he wishes to carry out his medical checks,”
Bongo had remained in power despite the state of his health, it was reported that he suffered a serious stroke on his right arm and leg in October 2018.
Bongo assumed office in 2009, after succeeding his father Omar, who ruled the country for about 42 years.
He was re-elected in bitterly disputed circumstances in 2016 but two years later suffered a stroke that weakened his grip on power.
At the poll in Gabon, Bongo was reported to have pulled about 64.27 percent of the vote against 30.77 percent for Ondo Ossa.

However, Ondo Ossa described the coup as a palace revolution. He said this due to the relationship between the ousted president Bongo and the coup leader, General Nguema.
It is alleged that Bongo and Ngueme are cousins.
