Gales Club Announces Plan To Donate Hospital Artillery To Lagos General Hospital, Ikoyi
As part of its community development initiative, class 9A of the civic group, the Gales Club has floated plans to donate hospital equipment and beddings to the General Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos.
This was contained in a letter signed by the club secretary, Gale Omotunde Ojikutu, and made available to Eko Hot Blog.
The letter reads in part: “We, members of the above-named club hereby inform you officially of our impending visit and intention to donate some Medical Equipment and Beddings to the hospital. Our visit is slated for the 9th of December 2021 at 10 am prompt.”
“We are doing this to commemorate the 42nd year anniversary as graduates of the Lagos State School of Nursing, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi and God’s infinite mercies on us as well as a way of giving back to our Alma Mater and the society at large.”
The club’s president Omipe Sadipe, in an interview with Eko Hot Blog spoke extensively on the origins of the club and the various community development initiatives it has embarked on during its 30-year history.

“We started as students in the Lagos state school of nursing in May 1976 and we finished in May 1979 having a three-year nursing course. After graduating a lot of us went to different spheres. We have some males amongst us. Some went to study Law, some went to study Accounting. We went into our various fields and a lot of us are in the diaspora. About 30 years ago, we all decided to come together, since had bonded together in school and started the Gales.”
According to her, a protracted conflict between the Lagos state government and the would-be founders of the club served as an unlikely catalyst in the birth of the organisation. Having come together to kick against a proposed bond by the government which caused them to enlist the services of the late Gani Fawehimi, it became easier for the team to move forward as a group of like-minded individuals and consequently come up with the idea of the Gales club some 12 years after graduation.
“That thing bonded us together since that time, we were doing things together; and so, about 11 or 12 years after leaving the school, we decided to start the Gales Club so we would be able to help our Alma Mater as well and the General Hospital as well, helping humanity as a whole.”
“Every year, we donate to different places, we’ve donated to the old people’s home, the children’s home, we’ve donated to about four or five places. It’s not that we do it yearly, maybe once in two years, we have places to go to make donations, like this handicapped school, we’ve gone there, we’ve donated to them, and children’s hospital too. For the old people’s home, we always drop something for them every year. The Red Cross, the Motherless Babies Home, we’ve been there about twice.”
She also provided a sketch into the future plans of the club, which is mainly targeted at helping not just the Alma Mater or the medical institutions within Lagos State, but a wider spectrum of the society.
“For the future, we have a lot of plans that we want to unfold. We want to come out big. We have plans for the aged, for the homeless and for the handicapped. For now, we have to pick which one we want to start with for the future,” she said.
