The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied reports suggesting that there is a current effort to remove Abdullahi Ganduje from his position as National Chairman of the party.
Recent rumors have circulated that President Bola Tinubu might be considering appointing Ganduje to an ambassadorial role as a means to address his ongoing corruption trial.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that however, some political analysts believe these reports could have been disseminated by party members from the North-Central zone, who are pushing for the return of the leadership position to their region following the departure of Ganduje’s predecessor, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
It is worth noting that three months ago, suspected thugs attacked and dispersed North-Central APC members who were protesting outside the party secretariat.
The demonstrators, who were chanting solidarity songs and holding banners with messages such as ‘Return APC National Chairmanship to North-Central’ and ‘Dr Ganduje, kindly resign to face your prosecution in Kano,’ had gathered to demand a change in party leadership.
Speaking to Sunday Punch, the Deputy National Organising Secretary of the party, Nze Chidi Duru, however, described the speculation of Ganduje removal as ridiculous.
Duru explained that Ganduje could not be removed because such a move would cause instability in the party.
He said, “It will be one change of guard too many. There must be stability, even in the administration of party hierarchy. That is a wishful thinking.
“I don’t know if that is how a party should be run. You cannot run the party on instability or unstable structure. It won’t augur well for any party.
“The chairmanship of the party had been zoned to the North-West. That decision was taken at the level of the NEC with all the components and organs of the party in attendance.
“If anybody feels otherwise, as I always maintain because we are a law-abiding institution, he is free to go to court.”
