Ekohotblog recalls that Rev. Macaulay, the son of a man of God, has courted several controversies by stating that God adores homosexuals.
At another time, he had stated that bible characters like King David was himself a homosexual while Ruth was a lesbian who had sexual affairs with her mother-in-law, Naomi.
Jide Macaulay was born into a Christian home, his father is a pastor and leading theologian in Nigeria; he is the founder of United Bible University.
He grew up in a strict and conservative Christian household surrounded by a lot of love, but that was not enough when it came to the issue of his sexual life. Jide discovered passages of the Bible that condemned homosexuality, so he grew up as a young, terrified, gay man.
Jide Macaulay was born in London and lived in Nigeria growing up, but returned to England at age18. On his return, he continued going to church, and eventually, met and married a woman. He didn’t get the chance to work through the issues around his sexuality before that, believed getting involved with a woman would heal it, and three years after the marriage, he revealed his true identity to his now ex-wife that he is gay.
Years later, people found out Jide was gay and ostracized him again. He fell out of church again for a couple of years after which he was introduced to a Metropolitan Community Church, which started in the United States in 1968.
Jide was able to begin his journey of reconciling his sexuality with my faith. He was ordained into a Christian minister position nearly 18 years ago now. Although he didn’t think it was right for him to be a Christian leader. But later he decided in 2005 to start something that would be welcoming to the gay community in Nigeria which led to the establishment of ministry of House of Rainbow.
