Gaza Ceasefire Talks Advance, Final Details Pending – US Official
After months of negotiations, a potential agreement for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages may be within reach.
According to a senior US official, progress was made over the weekend in Cairo, where mediators discussed the “final details” of a deal.
While significant issues remain, negotiators are now focused on the “nuts and bolts” of an agreement.
The proposed deal includes a “huge surge of humanitarian aid” and a commitment to remove rubble and begin reconstruction, bringing “massive relief for Gazans.”
However, sticking points remain, including the Israeli military’s presence in the Philadelphi corridor.
Hamas opposes Israel’s desire to continue stationing troops there, but negotiators believe Hamas may be more flexible on this issue.

As talks continue, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza worsens. Israeli strikes have killed over 40,000 Palestinians and injured another 93,000.
Displaced Gazans face severe starvation, dire water shortages, mass displacement, and disease.
The UN has warned that no aid deliveries are happening in Gaza due to security risks, but a senior UN official says they are not leaving Gaza “because the people need us there.”
Pressure mounts to seal a deal as the situation in Gaza becomes increasingly dire.
The fact that talks in Cairo went ahead despite a massive exchange of fire between Israel and Hezbollah over the weekend provides some sense of relief.
However, with the IDF-designated “humanitarian zone” in Gaza steadily shrinking, the need for a ceasefire and aid delivery becomes more urgent by the day.”
