Gbagada Hospital Children’s Ward Expansion Led By Rotary Club President Bunmi Oguntade
Eko Hot Blog reports that after over three decades of delay, the Rotary Club of Gbagada has finally accomplished its mission of constructing a specialized children’s ward at the Gbagada General Hospital in Lagos.

The new facility will be commissioned tomorrow, announced Rotary Club President Bunmi Oguntade in an exclusive interview with Eko Hot Blog.
According to Oguntade, the idea for the children’s ward was first proposed 35 years ago under the administration of then Health Minister Olikoye Ransome-Kuti. However, the project stalled for years, and the Rotary Club only recently decided to spearhead its completion as a gift to the children of the community.

“As a mother I thought to do something for the children this time around, as a way of making up for all those years lost,” remarked Oguntade.
The Gbagada General Hospital has been operational for decades, providing essential healthcare services to residents. But the aging infrastructure meant young patients did not have a dedicated ward catered to their needs.
After reinitiating plans, the Rotary Club reached out to various NGOs for funding support. A major contribution came from the George Charitable Foundation, which allowed construction to finally begin on the paediatric ward.

Oguntade pointed out that the Rotary Club has donated to the Gbagada hospital since its founding, but saw the children’s ward as a pressing priority this time. “The building of the hospital is not in top notch shape compared to what is attainable out there, so I thought to do something for the children,” she added.
With the physical structure now ready, Oguntade said the next phase is equipping and furnishing the ward properly ahead of its unveiling. “We need to add more beds for the admitted children, chairs for the mothers to sit in, furnish the medication room, and make the children’s play area more friendly,” she outlined.
The Rotary Club president appealed to other philanthropic institutions and investors in healthcare to support completing the children’s ward to create a relaxing environment where young patients can heal alongside loved ones.
After overcoming a 35-year wait, the Gbagada community will celebrate the commissioning of the paediatric facility as an uplifting milestone in providing compassionate, modern healthcare to the next generation.
