EKO HOT BLOG reports that the violence erupted early Tuesday morning between the indigenous Gbagy people and herdsmen, leading to numerous injuries and the destruction of homes.
Initial reports indicate that the conflict began after herdsmen allegedly killed a well-known farmer, referred to only as Alhaji. Alhaji had previously complained about cattle encroaching on his farm and had visited the herders’ settlement on Monday evening to address the issue.
When Alhaji did not return from his visit, community members organized a search party that found his body in the bush on Tuesday morning. In response to this discovery, the community mobilized and attacked the herders’ settlements, resulting in a violent confrontation with multiple fatalities and numerous injuries.
The situation has created widespread fear and anxiety in the area, causing residents to flee in anticipation of further retaliatory attacks.
The state Police Command, through Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident but noted that details are still unclear. The command plans to release a full statement once more information is available about the conflict and the number of casualties in Bosso Local Government Area.
