Eko Hot Blog reports that in a remarkable achievement, Nigerian scholar Professor Rose-Margaret Ekeng-Itua has shattered glass ceilings by becoming the first Black woman globally to earn a Ph.D. in Cybernetics.

Remarkably, she accomplished this milestone under the supervision of Professor Kevin Warwick, the world’s first human cyborg.

Despite facing numerous challenges as a woman of color in a male-dominated field, Ekeng-Itua refused to be deterred.

“Despite the challenges she faced as a woman of colour in a male-dominated field with gender biases and a lack of readily available role models, she refused to let these obstacles define her,” the report noted.

Moreover, Ekeng-Itua is spearheading STEM initiatives across Africa, fostering opportunities for the continent’s youth, with a particular focus on empowering girls. With over 20 years of expertise spanning continents, she is driving innovation and engineering education.

“Rose-Margaret Ekeng-Itua, a decorated professor in the field of engineering, brings over 20 years of expertise in Engineering and STEM Education, cultivated across continents including the USA, Europe, and Africa, where she has championed pioneering STEM initiatives,” the report stated.

Highlighting her early passion for technology, the report added, “Despite being in a society that typically deters girls from venturing into scientific disciplines, she uncovered her passion for unravelling the mysteries of how things functioned and exploring avenues for innovation.”
