The Cheetahs dented Nigeria’s hopes of reviving their qualifying campaign at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny.
After Jodel Dossou and Steve Mounie scoring two responsive goals after Raphael Onyedika had initially put Nigeria in the lead.
Consequently, Benin moved to the top of the group with seven points.
While the Eagles dropped to fifth with just three points from four matches, facing the prospect of missing a consecutive World Cup after their 2022 failure.
During the post-match interview, Genort Rohr added insult to injury by describing his team as better organized than his former side, the Eagles.
“These players always have solidarity. The belief is strong and they can score goals as well.
“I think we had the right organisation, they scored the first goal and perhaps believed it was already done.
“But the reaction and the desire of my team was so strong that they could come back in the game,” Rohr said.
Despite not securing a win in his two games in charge, Super Eagles head coach Finidi George.
Who assumed the role in April, remains optimistic about the team’s ability to bounce back.
