Eko Hot Blog reports that in a remarkable collaboration between The George Charitable Foundation and Rotary Club, a significant milestone was achieved with the successful renovation and commissioning of the Children’s Ward at Gbagada General Hospital in Lagos.
Tein George, Chairman of The George Charitable Foundation, delivered a heartfelt speech at the event, expressing gratitude for the partnership and shedding light on the foundation’s commitment to philanthropy.
Mr. George began by acknowledging the opportunity provided by Rotary Club and expressed appreciation to Ranti for facilitating the collaboration.
He delved into the historical background of the foundation, founded in 2018 with the primary objective of positively impacting the lives of citizens through projects that bring the most good to the largest number of people.
“The George Charitable Foundation was founded in 2018 by my darling wife Mrs. Dorcas George seated beside me and myself and the rest of my family,” stated Mr. George, emphasizing the family-driven nature of the foundation.
The foundation’s initial engagement with Dr. Atinuke Onoyega, the Chairman of the Health Service Commission, in 2018 paved the way for the current project.
Mr. George revealed that before Rotary Club’s involvement, the foundation had been actively exploring various projects in the areas of education, health, and social development for Lagos State.
“We approached our dear sister Dr. Atinuke Onoyega. We actually had a meeting in our offices. I invited her to my office at number 50C Global Road and I said, we have a foundation and we want to give back to Lagos State. And I told her that we want to intervene in the area of education, in the area of health and other social development areas,” Mr. George shared, providing transparency about the foundation’s initial plans.
He candidly shared that the Rotary Club’s project coincided with the foundation’s ongoing plans, stealing the thunder that was already brewing.
Despite this, Mr. George emphasized that the collaboration was a natural fit, aligning with the foundation’s mission to contribute significantly to the well-being of Lagos State.
“Rotary Club stole the thunder that we already brewing, so when this project came, it was a natural feat because we were already working on doing something for Lagos State,” Mr. George noted, acknowledging the convergence of efforts.
Mr. George extended gratitude to the management of Gbagada General Hospital for their cooperation and trust in the foundation’s ability to deliver on the project.
He highlighted the meticulous oversight he personally provided throughout the renovation process, emphasizing the hands-on approach taken by the foundation.
“We acknowledge the cooperation of the entire management of the hospital because they work with us. We had a program to when they work, they will deliver the empty building to us. They came to that program and delivered it to us, and they did not disturb us during the entire construction period,” Mr. George praised the hospital’s management for their collaboration.
In closing, Mr. George thanked the staff of the George Hotel for their support, the program manager, Remi Tijani, for her tireless efforts, and the contractor, Mr. Jay Bada of Japtosa, for his reliability.
“The staff of the George Hotel supported the foundation. Some of the funding came from the hotel. They supported the foundation staff and made sure that everything was done to deliver this project on time,” Mr. George credited the George Hotel staff for their contributions.
He expressed hope that the successful commissioning of the Children’s Ward would serve as a model for others to engage in philanthropy and uplift the lives of citizens.
“We are hoping that by commissioning this project, we will be a model for other men and women of goodwill to also intervene and do more to uplift the lives of our citizens,” Mr. George stated, encouraging others to follow suit.
The event concluded with Mr. George expressing his commitment to continue giving back to society, hoping that his friends and others in the community would be inspired to join in philanthropic endeavors.
“I have a lot of friends who have been blessed by the Lord. They don’t know that I do any philanthropy. So, my hope is that when they see me in the Guardian or in Leadership or in Punch, that they will know that their friend, Mr. George, partakes in philanthropy and they will be spoiled. Thank you. We will do likewise,” Mr. George expressed his desire for increased awareness of his philanthropic efforts.
