Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has urged owners of completed buildings in the state to obtain a certificate of completion and fitness for habitation before moving into such buildings for habitation.

The General Manager of LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Oki, represented by the Head of Building Certification Department, TPL (Mrs.) Oyeniyi Oluwabunmi, gave the advice today while presenting a Certificate of Completion and Fitness for Habitation to the owner of a three-floor structure, Mr. Rasak Oluwasunkanmi Busari (Mega Chicken Restaurant) at Block 24, Plot 3079b, Amuwo-Odofin area of the State.
Oki stated the reason for the certificate, saying, “The Certificate of Completion and Fitness for Habitation is proof that the building owner followed the laid down rules and regulations guiding building construction in the State.”
He further issued an order on commencement of building in the state.
Also stating the significance of the Letter of Authorization, he said, “Before the commencement of any building construction in Lagos State, owners/developers must approach LASBCA with their Building Plan Approval, where a Letter of Authorization to Commence Construction will be issued to them.”
“The Letter of Authorization enables the LASBCA professional team to carry out stage-by-stage inspections of the building construction from foundation to completion level. Subsequently, a Certificate of Completion and Fitness for Habitation will be issued to the owner of the building,” Oki further detailed.
The General Manager also specified the importance of the Issuance of Certificate of Completion.

He emphasized that, “The issuance of the Certificate of Completion and Fitness for Habitation from LASBCA indicates that the building owners/developers adhered strictly to all the Building Codes of the State and certified the building fit, safe, secured, healthy, and habitable for present and future generations.”
To reduce the incidences of building collapses in the state, Oki urged the building public to always build by the rules as this will make the building process seamless and they should also invite LASBCA for stage by stage inspection of their building constructions after the Letter of Authorization to Commence Construction must have been issued to them.
