Eko Hot Blog reports that Jonathan Vatsa, the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former commissioner of information culture and tourism, has chastised the Northern faction advocating for the elimination of rotating presidency.
He questioned the group’s justification for demanding an end to rotating presidency given that the North has lately lost control.
Speaking to reporters a few days ago in Yola, Adamawa State, a Northern organisation operating under the banner of the Arewa New Agenda (ANA) claimed that despite having more influence over the country’s political direction and leadership, the North has been underutilised under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The organisation claimed that the rotation of the president between the South and the North should end, citing Tinubu’s remark that “it is my turn” prior to the 2023 election.
Vatsa stated in a recent interview with the Sun, “You are now demanding for a suspension to the rotating arrangements because power just left the North. Anarchy is invited by the call.
“The arrangements cannot be tampered with until President Tinubu completes his two terms of eight years and the Igbos have their turn as President, then we can come to the round table and discuss what we want as a country.”
Vatsa continued, stating that the group’s assertion that the North possesses the number is an oversimplification of current events in the North.
“I don’t know which North they are referring to, so their threat that they have the number is an over aggravation of the actual situation in the North today,” he stated. Is it the real North, or the one that’s already lost and under attack by rebels and bandits? Every day, people are killed in Zamfara, Katsina, Niger, Kaduna, and other locations.
“Well, it seems to me that they are merely attempting to attract attention. My recommendation to them is that they should get ready to go farming because the rains have begun.”
