Ghana’s 2025 AFCON Dreams End After Draw Against Angola
Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco were dashed following a disappointing 1-1 draw against Angola on Friday.
The Black Stars initially took the lead with a brilliant free kick from Jordan Ayew in the 18th minute, as his perfectly executed strike flew past Angola’s goalkeeper, offering a rare moment of joy in an otherwise difficult campaign.

Ghana seemed in control for most of the first half, thanks in part to a crucial penalty save by goalkeeper Manaf Nurudeen, which helped them maintain their narrow lead heading into the break.
However, Angola’s persistent pressure eventually broke through in the second half. Substitute Zini found space in the box and scored the equalizer with a header, effectively ending Ghana’s chances of qualification.
This result marks a significant setback for Ghana, who will miss the AFCON tournament for the first time since 2004.
