In a meeting held at the State House in Abuja, on Tuesday, the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, said the Tinubu led administration is working to ensure quality healthcare system at all levels, especially at the grassroots, for all Nigerians.

Shettima said the administration is looking into domestic routes to financing the health needs of Nigerians, which he narrated as one of the three ‘major commitments’.

He, further, described the commitments as ‘improved health outcomes for all Nigerians; increased domestic financing for health; and promoting health industrialization’ to the delegates from the Global Health Partners

The GHP comprise the Global Fund, the US President’s Malaria Initiative and the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.

According to a statement signed by the VP and released by the State House Director of Information, Office of the Vice President, Olusola Abiola, the Tinubu led administration will be keen on improving the health sector, industrialization among others.

“We are committed to changing the narrative of inclusive growth, of a Nigeria where every black man will be proud of,” Shetima said.

The V.P. reiterated the commitment of the Tinubu administration to revamping the Nigeria’s healthcare system.

Validating his point, Shettima made a reference to the appointment of the Minister of Health, Prof. Ali Pate, as a clear testimony to propel the political commitment of the President, and the current leadership towards remodeling the Nigerian nation.

He said, “The Minister of Health is a man of impeccable credentials.

“He is a celebrated public health practitioner with the experience, exposure, and commitment to drive the change we seek in the health sector.”

He spurred the Global Health Partners and other stakeholders in the health sector to support the new leadership in the Health Ministry to actualize the President’s vision for all Nigerians.

Pate said the GHP’s courtesy visit was to take stock of the progress made so far and reassure the Tinubu administration of their commitment to assist the country to combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis.

He also disclosed that the GHP made a pledge of $2bn grant for the financing of the health of Nigerians in the span of three years – 2023 to 2026.

To ensure adequate use of the fund, he said the Ministry is retraining 120,000 healthcare workers and officials for the next 12 to 18 months, especially frontline health workers.

“These workers will be trained to serve the population at the grassroots to boost the primary healthcare system. We are working with state governors and local governments,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, the US Global AIDS Coordinator, John Nkengasong, indicated  that the Health Minister’s clarity of vision and commitment to building an inclusive health system for all Nigerians would further cement the goals between the government and the partners to dispose their objectives and aims in the interference.
