Eko Hot Blog reports that Hon. Mustain Abiodun Tobun, the member representing Epe Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, took to the Thani-Oladunjoye Old People Centre, Epe, Lagos, to celebrate his 60th birthday on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.
The lawmaker danced and played with the elderly ones at the centre.
Tobun’s birthday provided an entertainment space for the seniors as they participated in various games for their pleasure.
The celebrant capped off the joyous occasion by presenting several valuable gifts to the hundreds of aged people present at the event.
The gifts included cash, fabrics, drugs, walking sticks, eyeglasses, food items (raw and cooked), and other helpful items.
The winners of the first, second and third positions of each of the games also went home with various gifts.
Tobun said the motivation behind the event was to thank God for sparing his lives over the past six decades.
The lawmaker also noted that he chose to celebrate with the seniors to give them more assurance of better living conditions.
According to the politician, he wanted to celebrate with other people who had passed through the stage (60 years old) he just attained.
“I must sincerely appreciate Allah for His unending support and mercies in my life. My happiness knows no bounds in seeing myself in the midst of the elderly ones. Turning 60 is not easy,” he said.
“If I were to be in the civil service, today would have been my last day in office. And as someone who believes in humanitarian affairs, I need to give back to the community I serve and represent, most particularly the old ones.
“I chose not to be elaborate for many reasons. Importantly, however, I want to feel the presence of my fathers and mothers who have equally passed through this stage in life. I’m happy indeed.”
The celebrant’s wife, Alhaja Adenike Tobun, was also present at the event and thanked the care centre’s management for hosting the birthday celebration.
She also thanked the elderly ones for joining in celebrating her husband’s special day.
“I must be grateful to the Almighty Allah who has made today part of our successes in life. I must also thank the management of the Thani-Oladunjoye Old Peoples’ Home, who gave us permission to celebrate with the elderly ones.
“To my fathers and mothers here, we remain grateful,” Alhaja Tobun said.
The Medical Director of the Thani-Oladunjoye Old People Care Centre, Dr. Oloyede, delivered a health talk to the elderly ones in attendance.
The medical practitioner, who advised the seniors about how to manage their old age, commended the celebrant for his courage and heartfelt concern for the elderly ones by celebrating his birthday with them.
“At old age, you should always drink enough water. Absolutely, reduce eating or drinking sugary substances and you must avoid too much of salt,” he said.
“Make sure you have enough sound sleep and rest. Eat much of fruits and vegetables because these are good for the body in old age.
“Stop drinking alcohol and endeavour to exercise your body constantly. To crown it all, promptly report any kind of illness at the hospital.”
One of the patients at the hospital, Mr Rasak Kuti, expressed his profound gratitude to the lawmaker for his kind gesture towards the old people while wishing him more prosperous years ahead.
He also used the medium to appreciate the management of Thani-Oladunjoye Old People Care Centre for the adequate care given to the old people.
“The founder/MD of Thani-Oladunjoye Old People Care Centre, Mr. Tunde Thani showered encomium on Hon. Abiodun Tobun for his support at all times, most especially his decision of extending this gesture to the people at the centre to mark his 60th birthday,” Mr Kuti said.
He noted that the lawmaker and others will remain evergreen in his memory for their contributions since the establishment of the old centre in Epe.
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Epe LGA, Hon. (Comrade) Toyin Gbadamosi, also attended the event, expressing his excitement at the unique birthday celebration and kind gesture.
