Global Peace: We Are Committed To Starting New Journey In Kaduna; Rev. Hayab Says

The Country Director of Global Peace Foundation, Rev. John Hayab, said the Organization was committed to starting a new journey towards actualization of peace in Kaduna State.

Hayab stated this on Monday at an expanded town hall meeting on peace building initiative in partnership with Justice Development and Peace Caritas, JDPC at Abakpa community in Kaduna state-Nigeria.

Hayab who said that Kaduna communities in the past used to be tolerant and United regardless of religious or tribal identity regretted that the state is now gradually losing it due to intolerance and political differences.

He noted that the foundation in collaboration with JDPC perceived the idea of reaching out to local communities and engage them on the need to restore back the old friendship and begin a new journey of peace in Kaduna state.

He explained that their hope was to achieve meaningful progress on the need for peaceful coexistence and further expand the initiative to other communities.

“Our aim and prayers is to bring back the lost glory of Kaduna State, the situation we are in today is not good for our children, the government and the generations that are yet to come.

“We want good stories to be told about Kaduna State as it has been in the past and that is why we selected 40 people from the various communities and engage them on peaceful coexistence and we will keep the work going to various communities gradually,’’ he said.

He called on residents of the state to be peaceful, tolerant and law abiding with a view to achieving meaningful progress.

The Northern Coordinator of the foundation, Sheikh Halliru Maraya, urged the people of Kaduna and Nigeria as a whole to imbibe the culture of togetherness.

“As humans, regardless of social differences, we belong to the one family of Adam and Eve,’’ he said.

According to him, development ceased to exist in Kaduna because the people now live in isolation unlike in the past when togetherness brought about massive development and trust.

He called on the government to mitigate all forms of impunity, provides quality education and reduce unemployment to bring about meaningful development.

Some participants at the town hall programme, Sanusi Surajo from Tudun Wada and Mrs. Victoria Dong from Abakpa who pledged to use the knowledge and skills acquired judiciously said they would convey the message to their communities in the interest of peace, unity and development of the state and the nation in general.

They expressed readiness to continue to propagate the message of oneness toward ensuring people regardless of tribe or religion live together and make friends among themselves for the good of all.
