As far as gospel artiste, Nathaniel Bassey, is concerned, the rape allegation made against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) is an indication of God’s move in the church.
The allegation was brought into the public domain by Busola Dakolo, wife of the singer, Timi Dakolo, in an interview on Friday, accusing Fatoyinbo of raping her more than once about 20 years ago.
Sharing his opinion via Instagram on Monday, Bassey reacted to the allegation in a lengthy post, writing in parts: “1. Even in these turbulent times. God is purging His church. And things that can be shaken are shaken. 2. The care to not react, but respond after careful consideration. And the importance of following the word. 3. The need to have the elders go to the root of this. No sweeping under the carpets this time. As the blood of Jesus only works in the light. 1 John 1:7.
“I also called on other people with evidence to come forward. And just to add, if need be, redress must be sort in the court of the land. I also mentioned that this was a good opportunity to bring to the fore sexual abuse going on in church. Eg, RAPE.”
The storm of protests, scrutiny and widespread condemnation led the COZA pastor into stepping down on Monday, announcing his decision to embark on a leave of absence in a post on his Instagram account.
