Golden Eaglets Advance To Semifinals, Compete For U-17 AFCON Spot

Eko Hot Blog reports that Nigeria Golden Eaglets will compete against Ivory Coast in the semi-finals of the ongoing WAFU B U-17 Championship in Ghana on Saturday, after advancing from the group stage as table leaders with a 3-0 victory over Togo in their final group match on Thursday.

In the rescheduled final Group B match, held at the Rugby Pitch of the University of Ghana, striker Abdulmuiz Adeleke scored twice, while Rapha Adams added another goal.
This secured the Golden Eaglets’ second win, earning them seven points and a superior goal difference over Burkina Faso.
Adeleke made a significant impact in the morning match with his two goals.
While Rapha Adams bolstered his growing reputation by scoring his second goal of the tournament.
Although Adeleke missed an opportunity to put the Eaglets ahead in the sixth minute, he capitalized five minutes later with an assist from Abdulmuiz Oladimeji.
Rapha then added the second goal, giving Nigeria a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Adeleke completed his brace and scored Nigeria’s third goal in the 57th minute, this time assisted by captain Cletus.
Originally scheduled for Wednesday evening, the match was postponed to Thursday morning due to the water-logged venue caused by heavy rainfall.
However, even on Thursday, there was another delay as the pitch was only marked.
And the goalposts were erected while both teams waited well past the 9 am kick-off time.
Nigeria will face Ivory Coast in the second semi-final on Saturday evening at 7 pm Nigeria time, following the first semi-final between Ghana and Burkina Faso.

The two finalists will secure tickets to next year’s U-17 AFCON, serving as qualifiers for the expanded 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar.
