The Chairman of Ikoyi Club, Rotarian Tafa Zibiri-Aliu, has stated that golf is not a sport exclusively for the wealthy.

He stated on Friday at the Charity Golf Kitty, an initiative hosted by the Rotary Club of Victoria Island East to raise funds for the Rotary Foundation.

Speaking with EKO HOT BLOG shortly after a fundraising session for the Rotary Foundation, Rotarian Tafa Zibiri-Aliu countered the widespread notion that golf is a “rich man’s sport.”

When asked what inspired the club’s choice of golf over other sports such as lawn tennis, football, or basketball, he stated that golf was chosen not due to misconceptions about its exclusivity but rather as an engaging way to achieve fundraising goals.

“Let me correct the notion about golf being a rich man’s sport. It is not a rich man’s sport,” he asserted.

“It’s a sport to get well and fit. It’s not meant for only wealthy people; anyone can play—it’s just another sport.”

Stressing the significance of the Rotary Club and Foundation, he added, “The Rotary Club is about caring for people around the world.

“We are focused on helping the needy and underserved members of society and assisting the government in improving the general standard of living through innovative projects.”

The Charity Golf Kitty initiative was organized to raise funds for the Rotary Foundation.

The occasion brought together golfers from various Rotary clubs in Lagos, who arrived as early as 7 a.m. to kickstart the Golf Kitty session.

The event, themed “Swing to Doing Good in the World,” featured two sessions.

The first session was the golf sporting activity on the Ikoyi Golf Club course.

The second phase, featured fundraising activities and auctions in support of the Rotary Foundation.
