The approval was announced on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information, Mijinyawa Tilde, after the council’s 36th meeting presided by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya.
Tilde said this is the fifth time the current administration is settling inherited outstanding gratuities for retirees.
The Commissioner for Finance, Muhammad Magaji, said N2.291 billion will offset gratuity for civil service retirees.
“This is the fifth time since this administration took office that the government is clearing backlog for the payment of gratuity to deserving 2018 retirees,” he stated.
The Commissioner for Local Government, Abdulkadir Waziri, said over N3 billion from the local government contributory fund has been earmarked to pay retired local government workers across the 11 councils.
Waziri added: “Local governments are going to pay the backlog up to 2022; some will pay at least two years each…to reduce the burden of retirees.”
The council also approved N332 million as compensation for property owners at the Bauchi and Dukku motor parks in Gombe metropolis, for relocation to the new Mega Motorpark built by the state government.
