EKO HOT BLOG reports that he assured workers that the remaining three months of the five-month backlog of arrears promised to the union would be paid as outlined in the 2024 state budget, alongside the new minimum wage.
Governor Alia explained, “We are implementing a new national minimum wage of ₦75,000. This decision comes after thorough discussions with labour unions, who raised concerns that included a minimum wage of ₦30,000, as well as demands for wage awards, transportation allowances, tax relief, and work-off days, among others.”
He further noted that while President Bola Tinubu had approved a national minimum wage of ₦70,000, Benue State had opted to exceed that figure, addressing concerns raised during negotiations and considering the state’s financial capacity to pay.
The Governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers, stating, “My government is dedicated to serving the common man. I will do everything within my power to ensure that the workers of Benue State are well cared for.”
In closing, Governor Alia reiterated that paying the arrears and implementing the new wage was aimed at easing the financial burden on state workers and improving their living standards.
