The Abia state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu on Friday unmasked a 100-bed modern isolation and treatment facility for the management of COVID-19 in the state.

The facility located within the premises of the Abia State Specialist Hospital at Amachara, Umuahia South LGA was donated by the Coalition of the Private Sector Against COVID-19 (CACOVID-19) in partnership with Access Bank plc.

He stated that the COVID-19 pandemic has availed Nigeria the opportunity to ramp up with healthcare delivery facilities across the country, promising that his administration will preserve and put to use at the appropriate time the equipment donated to the State.

According to the Governor, they are timeless medical infrastructure that will be useful beyond the era of COVID-19, maintaining that the state will be fit to take care of her people health-wise and be prepared to respond to emergencies whenever they arise.

CACOVID also states that the emergency health response initiative against COVID-19, jointly formed by the investors and players in the nation’s private sector, is deployed to bridge the gap in the health infrastructure which has been seriously exposed and tested by the outbreak of Coronavirus in Nigeria.

Speaking at the handover ceremony of 100-bed Isolation/Treatment Centre which was prepared to contain cases of COVID-19 in Abia by CACOVID on Friday, Kennedy Ojukwu on behalf of Access Bank said the project is an initiative of private sector organizations that came together to assist the state and federal government in the fight against COVID-19.
