Gov Okpebholo Renames Edo State University to Edo University, Iyamho

EKO HOT BLOG reports that this announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday in Benin City by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor. The statement confirmed that the name change takes immediate effect, directing all official documentation for the institution to reflect the updated name.

“It is hereby announced for the information of the public that the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the change of the name of ‘Edo State University, Uzairue,’ to now be known as ‘Edo University, Iyamho’ with immediate effect,” the statement read. “Accordingly, all documentation in respect of the Institution henceforth shall reflect the above change.”
In other news, The Edo State Government has pledged to compensate individuals whose properties were illegally acquired or destroyed by the immediate past administration under former Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, disclosed this during a press briefing in Benin City on Monday. He revealed that the previous administration had taken over community lands and properties without offering compensation, an issue the current government, led by Governor Monday Okpebholo, is committed to addressing.
Osagie stated that all complaints regarding unlawful acquisitions would be investigated, and appropriate compensation would be provided to affected individuals. He assured the public that his ministry would manage lawsuits strategically to prevent distractions from the administration’s goals.
