Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his Deputy, Kadri Hamza, and a host of prominent Nigerians are set to attend the prestigious 2024 Kosoko Memorial Lecture.
This year’s lecture is dedicated to commemorating the illustrious legacy of the late Oba Kosoko, who reigned over Lagos from 1845 to 1851.
Marking the 163rd anniversary of the return of the renowned Lagos monarch and his lieutenants, this event also celebrates the third edition of the Kosoko Memorial Lecture.
The 2024 lecture aims to foster cultural awareness, unity, and tourism while showcasing the rich traditions and customs of the Lagos people.
Scheduled for Sunday, September 8, 2024, the event will take place at the historic Glover Memorial Hall in Marina, Lagos. Under the theme, “The Lagos Economy During the Reign of Kosoko: A Tale of Prosperity and the Decline,” this year’s lecture will delve into the economic conditions of Lagos during Oba Kosoko’s era and examine their evolution over time.
Distinguished guests expected to grace the occasion include Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, the 55th Alara of Ilara Kingdom; Oba Adewale, Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom; and Chief Abiola Dosunmu, Erelu Kuti IV of Lagos.
Notable speakers at the event will include:
David Aworawo, Professor of International Relations and Strategic Studies at the University of Lagos.
Adewunmi J. Falode, PhD, Chair of the Department of History and International Studies at Lagos State University.
Sanni Habeeb Abiodun, a scholar with expertise in the historical connections between Kosoko and the Epe region.
The lecture promises to deliver an in-depth analysis of Lagos’s economic history during Oba Kosoko’s reign and illuminate the enduring impact of his contributions on the city’s development.
