You Have 72 Hours To Return Government Vehicles – Edo Gov’t Tells Ighodalo, Others

EKO HOT BLOG reports that a statement by Kelly Okungbowa, Chairman of the Government Assets Recovery Committee, disclosed that some vehicles from the now-defunct Edo Line Transport Company were reportedly sold and discovered at a spare parts market in Benin City. The committee claims to have video evidence of vehicles abandoned in spare parts shops.

Okungbowa stated that the government is committed to reclaiming all public assets, urging those in possession of the vehicles to comply promptly.

“These vehicles are not private property; they belong to the state and the people of Edo. The cost of replacing a single vehicle, such as a Hilux, is as high as ₦120 million. Where do they expect the governor to source such funds?” he asked.

He appealed specifically to Ighodalo and his running mate, urging them to act responsibly by returning the vehicles. “Mr. Governor visited Edo Line during his campaign and pledged to revamp the company. Upon inspection, there were no vehicles.

Today, we located 12 vehicles at Uwelo Spare Parts Market—six were functional, while six were not. We have video evidence,” he added.

The committee emphasized that the recovered vehicles will be reallocated to government agencies. While the appeal for voluntary compliance continues, the government warned of further action if the deadline is ignored.

“Those who still hold these vehicles have 72 hours to comply. If they fail, the government will take appropriate measures,” the statement concluded.
