Government Will Make Public Servants Comfortable – Ponnle

The Honourable Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Mrs. Ajibola Ponnle, has assured labour Unions in Lagos State that the State Government will do all that it could to make Public Servants in the State comfortable. She gave the pledge yesterday at the meeting of Lagos State Public Service Joint Negotiating Council.

She said the State Government does not take discussions and issues raised at the Joint Negotiating Council meeting lightly revealing that the Governor just gave retrospective approval to over 3000 Officers who acquired additional qualifications without prior approval.

The Commissioner said that in spite of the series of challenges faced by the State Government which ranged from COVID-19, Endsars protest to building collapse with attendant cost to government, it was able to perform its obligations to Public Servants.

Whilst commending the Governor, as an incident commander and crises manager, for his prompt responses to requests by the labour Union, she advised Civil Servants in the State to be more dedicated and do the right things whilst at work adding that Civil Servants must know what they come to office to do every day and perform them as expected.

She commended the leadership of Labour Unions for their maturity in dealing with government advising them to always see strike as the last option and keep open mind when coming to the round table for discussion.

In the same dimension, the Special Adviser on Labour and Industrial relations Matters, Comrade Babatunde Williams, said the State Government will continue to prioritize the welfare of the workforce whilst urging Public Servants to discharge their duties honourably for the good of the State.

He praised the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his effectiveness in handling labour union issues which has made the State from any disruptive Industrial action by Labour Unions.

Comrade Williams said that the Administration of Babajide Sanwo-Olu will continue to ensure sustainability of the existing cordial and peaceful relationship with Labour Unions assuring that adequate consideration will be given to all request from the various Unions in the State Public Service.
