EKO HOT BLOG reports that Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has invalidated recent appointments made into the State Civil Service by former Governor Samuel Ortom.
The nullification applies to all appointments made from May 2022 until the present. Governor Alia stated that the affected appointments are immediately null and void.
Prior to the inauguration of the new governor, there was a clash between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) over last-minute policies implemented by the previous administration, including recruitment, staff promotions, and contract awards.
The APC expressed concerns about these actions creating obstacles for the incoming government, while the PDP justified them, citing Governor Ortom’s authority until noon on May 29th.
In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Kula Tersoo, Governor Alia not only nullified the recruitments made by his predecessor but also directed retired individuals who were still occupying positions due to extensions or contract appointments to proceed on retirement immediately.
Additionally, all civil servants appointed as Permanent Secretaries from January 2023 onwards are instructed to return to their previous positions.
Furthermore, all postings and transfers made in the state civil service from October 2022 to the present have been declared null and void. The affected staff members are required to revert to their former ranks, stations, or offices without delay.
