Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has signed the 2025 budget into law. The ₦375.79 billion budget, passed by the State House of Assembly, dedicates 51% to recurrent expenditures and 49% to capital development. Speaking in Ado Ekiti, Oyebanji highlighted that the budget reflects the input of Ekiti residents and aligns with principles of transparency and inclusivity.
“This budget focuses on key areas like agriculture, food security, job creation, and infrastructure,” the governor said. He noted it would help complete ongoing projects and drive economic transformation across the state.
Oyebanji acknowledged the importance of adequate funding for budget success and praised President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, which have boosted the state’s revenue from the Federation Account. The governor also commended the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS) for improving revenue collection without adding burdens on residents.
The governor announced plans to construct a new Ekiti Revenue House to further enhance revenue generation. He expressed hope that, in the future, internally generated revenue would cover the state’s operational costs, freeing up federal allocations for development projects.
Oyebanji reaffirmed his commitment to worker and pensioner welfare, highlighting the payment of ₦5.6 billion in outstanding gratuities, reducing the backlog by four years.
He concluded by appreciating the 6th State Assembly for its partnership, urging lawmakers to continue prioritizing the development of Ekiti above political differences.
