Sanwo-Olu Gives New Orders On Lagos Fire Incident

Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu has given orders to the police for a full on investigation on the fire that took over Akere Auto Spare Part Market.

The fire took place in the run up to the governorship elections, claiming a lot of properties running up to millions.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Idowu Owohunwa, to conduct a full investigation into the Akere Auto Spare Part Market fire incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The governor made the announcement during his visit to the market on Wednesday, which was gutted by fire that destroyed goods and properties worth millions of naira.

The midnight inferno, which occurred at Olodi Apapa in Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state, was allegedly caused by unknown persons who shot sporadically towards the market. The attackers also killed one security guard before setting the market on fire.
Sanwo-Olu, who met with the victims of the fire incident, conveyed his sympathy and pledged support for the traders to alleviate their losses. He condemned the incendiary action and described it as “unfortunate”, promising to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The governor commiserated with the family of the deceased security guard and promised to provide assistance towards his burial. He also directed the Commissioner of Police to tighten security around markets and protect all vulnerable markets in the state.
Sanwo-Olu stated that the state government had received the list of all shop owners affected by the fire and would vet the list for compensation to help the victims get back on their feet.
He said, “We don’t want to pass judgment ahead of the investigation. In strong terms, I’m directing the Commissioner of Police to immediately launch a full investigation into the cause of this incident.”
The Akere Auto Spare Part Market fire incident has caused significant losses to the traders and the government has promised to provide necessary support to help them recover from the losses. The investigation into the incident will determine the cause and identify those responsible for the attack.
