EKO HOT BLOG reports that Governor Eno made the announcement on Friday, June 6, during a formal ceremony held in Uyo, the state capital. The event drew prominent APC figures, including Imo State Governor and Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodinma; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; and several other party chieftains and governors from across the country.
Addressing the crowd, Governor Eno stated that his defection was not born out of weakness but strength, insisting that his administration is bringing value to Akwa Ibom and aiming to align the state more closely with the politics at the federal level.
“We’re not joining the APC from a position of weakness, but from a position of strength. We’re bringing value to Akwa Ibom State. We’ve come into the APC with a ministry of reconciliation,” Eno declared.
He emphasized that the decision was reached after wide consultations with key stakeholders and citizens across the state, ensuring it had broad support.
“After completing the rounds of my consultation as your servant whom you have elected to serve, I have therefore decided to progressively move to the APC,” he added.
Governor Eno confirmed that he submitted his resignation from the PDP at the ward, state, and national levels before making his defection public.
With this move, Eno becomes the second governor to leave the PDP for the APC during the current administration. He follows Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, who defected to the APC in April 2025.

The development is expected to reshape political dynamics in Akwa Ibom ahead of future elections, as the APC seeks to strengthen its foothold in the South-South region.
