The event brought to a close the highly competitive leadership tussle experienced among the Epe Ulamas over a year ago.
The leadership position, which became vacant after the demise of the late occupant, Alhaji Kolawole Sanni, was conferred upon Sheikh Abiola Sa’dallah after official approval of his choice by the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The turbaning was done by the President of League of Imams and alfas of Yoruba Land alongside the representative of prominent Fadeelat Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Abdullah Al-Ilory, Fadeelat Sheikh Iskeel Lawal Sugar (Wakeelul Muslimeen of Yoruba Land, Edo and Delta) and Sheikh Al-Imam Sa’adullah Alade Bamgbola (The Grand Chief Imam of Egba Land Abeokuta, Ogun State).
Other notable Islamic scholars who graced the thrilling turbaning occasion include Khaleefah Sheikh, Adam Shaadhily Sambo, Oganija-Hasbunallah, Sheikh Dr Abdul Kadir, Muhammad Jum’ah (Serikin Quadiriyah & Dir’ul Quadiriyah of Africa), Al-Khaleefah Muh. Soliu Moh. Jamiu Babaniji Amosa Thani Solihina Markaz (Grand Khalifatul Khulafah of Quadiriyyah Lagos State).
The epochal event experienced a slight change in venue from the King Kosoko Embankment Centre, Marina, to Epe Central Mosque, Oke-Balogun, over fears of unrest in the community as it coincided with the annual “Kilajolu” Festival.
In an interview with Eko Hot Blog, Sheikh Dr Abdul Kadir, one of the special guests and prominent muslim clerics, said, “I appreciate the Lagos State Governor, His Excellency, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his Deputy, Dr Kadri Óbafemi Hamzat and other members of his cabinet for doing a thorough job in approving the choice of Imam Sa’dallah as Grand Chief Imam of Epe Division, based on the historical leanings of Islamic practice, propagation in the Epe Division.” I pray for Allah’s guidance and blessing in all their endeavours” he concluded
On his part, Grand Chief Imam, Abiola Sa’dallah, averred “This significant Islamic throne has been handed down from one generation to another’s the by our earliest ancestors since 1851. I thank God for making my historic turbaning a success against the odds encountered a few days ago. I hereby appeal to the Muslim Umah in Epe Division to close ranks and forge a united front for peaceful co-existence and the continued, enviable progress and development of Islam for the benefit of mankind.”
Eko Hot Blog also reports that the colourful turbaning ceremony coincided with the birthday of Fadhilat Sheikh Abiola Sa’dallah, the 16th Grand Chief Imam of Epe Division.
Families, friends and well-wishers, in their thousands, joined the Chief Imam in a carnival-like procession, filled with melodic tunes from the symbolic “kaakaki” trumpet, “bandiri” drums, songs and dance with the Yoruba Muslims, to the iconic Moshalashi Taosiri, where the celebrations continued.
