United States President Donald Trump has issued a renewed and forceful statement on Greenland, saying Denmark would cede the Arctic island to the US “the easy way or the hard way.”
Eko Hot Blog reports that Trump made the remark on Friday, insisting that the United States would acquire Greenland regardless of opposition, warning that failure to do so could allow China or Russia to gain control of the strategically located territory.

“Ownership is necessary because you don’t defend leases the same way; you have to own it,” Trump said.
The statement comes 3 days after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said military action remained an option in the US bid to take control of Greenland, a comment that sparked international concern.
In response, Greenland has reiterated that it is not for sale, while Denmark, a long-standing ally of the United States, has firmly rejected Trump’s position, stressing that the island belongs to its people and not to any foreign power.
Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. It transitioned from colonial status in 1953, gained home rule in 1979, and expanded its self-governing powers in 2009.

Trump has repeatedly described Greenland as vital to US national and economic security, citing its strategic Arctic location and natural resources.
During his first term in 2019, Trump openly floated the idea of purchasing Greenland, an offer that was swiftly dismissed by Danish authorities, who made it clear that the territory was not for sale.
Despite the rejection, Trump has continued to raise the issue, renewing geopolitical tensions around the Arctic region and the future of Greenland’s sovereignty.
