Eko Hot Blog reports that in a commendable initiative aimed at recognizing and appreciating the dedication of teachers, particularly those serving in low-income communities, the Grooming Endowment Teachers Appreciation Program (GETAP) has announced plans to reward 12 exceptional educators across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
According to a statement by the group, each of the 12 selected teachers will receive a cash prize of N200,000, totaling N2.4 million. The objective of the Grooming Award is to “appreciate teachers who are making an impact, especially those who went the extra mile.”
Spokespersons for GETAP, Michael Adegoke and Orji Emmanuel, highlighted the initiative’s mission, stating, “The Grooming Endowment Teachers Appreciation Program is an Initiative set up to support 12 deserving teachers, two each across the six geo-political zones in Nigeria. It is important to encourage the reduction of out-of-school children in Nigeria by encouraging main drivers in the sector.”
They further elaborated, “The gesture is to help alleviate some of the economic burdens these teachers face while carrying out their essential functions in the society. A sum of N200,000 and other resources in kind await successful applicants.”
To qualify for the award, GETAP outlined specific criteria, as stated in the group’s statement: “The applicants must currently be working in any undeserved and remote environment. Must be teaching in a primary or secondary school. Must show impact or innovation in teaching. Must show passion and plans for continuity in the profession to help more children and encourage others in the field. Above all, he/she must have a minimum of five years teaching experience.”
The Grooming Award initiative seeks to recognize and reward teachers who are making a significant impact, particularly in underserved communities, and who exhibit laudable ideas and innovations in their teaching practices.
By providing financial support and recognizing their efforts, GETAP aims to encourage and motivate these dedicated educators while also highlighting the importance of their role in reducing the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
