Guber Election: We Didn’t Endorse Fubara, Folarin – AAC Debunks Rumours

  • Th AAC has denied endorsing PDP governorship candidates in Rivers State and Oyo State.

  • The AAC has stated that they have no alliance with any political party or individual in either state.

  • The party chairman in Oyo State stated that the AAC has not endorsed the APC candidate in the state, despite its own candidate being expelled.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the African Action Congress (AAC) has come out to deny endorsing the Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Siminialaye Fubara, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Oyo State, Teslim Folarin.

The party in multiple reactions said it’s not in any alliance with any individual or political party in any of those states and therefore its supporters should disregard the report.

EDITOR’S PICKS

In a statement issued by the chairman of the Oyo State chapter of the party, Kayode Babayomi, the AAC has never endorsed Folarin or pledged any alliance.

He submitted that “We wish to restate that the AAC is not a vehicle for anti-people negotiations or alliances. We have not endorsed any individual or political party, despite the fact that the governorship candidate of our party, Mr Mojeed Okedara, has been expelled for anti-party activities. This is already public knowledge.”

Similarly, the Rivers State chapter of the AAC also kicked against an alleged report that it was part of the political parties that adopted Fubara.

It was learnt that the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), and an Atiku Abubakar Support Group in Rivers State, on Wednesday, adopted Fubara as their candidate ,saying “Supporting the candidacy of Sir. Siminialayi Fubara for governor of our dear state resonates with the values of equity, fairness, justice and balance.”

However, in his reaction, the Rivers State chairman of the party, Dr Chukwunenye Okocha, whose name was listed as part of the parties that signed the IPAC endorsement of Fubara, said his name was only on the list but he wasn’t there at the IPAC meeting where Fubara was endorsed.

Okocha told The Punch that “Yes, my name was quoted but I wasn’t there. So I had to call the IPAC leadership, they said they thought I would be there.

“But that’s not how things are done, I had some other engagements yesterday and I was not there.

“Well, we were not there, I mean if we were there, we would have been part of it, but we were not there, we had some other engagements yesterday. In fact, we had a rally yesterday (for) one our Assembly candidates, that was where I was and some other domestic issues.”

The party had also taken to the micro-blogging platform, Twitter to debunk reports of the said endorsement saying “@aacparty completely distances itself from this shenanigans and was never part of the endorsement of @GovWike’s candidate Sim Fubara.”
