Eko Hot Blog reports that a gunman attacked a childcare centre in northeastern Thailand on Thursday.
Officials confirmed that the attack killed at least 31 people, including children.
According to a statement from the office of the Prime Minister, Prayuth Chan-ocha, the shooting took place at the Child Development Center in Uthaisawan Na Klang district, Nong Bua Lamphu province.
“The prime minister has expressed his condolences on the shooting incident which resulted in 30 deaths,” the statement read.
The statement added that he ordered authorities to apprehend the perpetrator, a former police officer, as soon as possible.
However, local media report that the shooter has shot himself, wife, and child dead.
In an update, Police in Thailand said at least 31 were killed.
Police Maj. Gen. Achayon Kraithong said the gunman opened fire early in the afternoon (local time) in the centre in the town of Nongbua Lamphu.
The senior police officer added that 23 children were among the casualties.
Mass shootings are a rare sight in Thailand. In 2020, a soldier killed 21 people and injured dozens more in the city of Nakhon Ratchasima.
