Gunmen Abduct Rev Father in Zamfara

Eko Hot Blog reports that Revd. Fr. Mikah Suleiman, the parish priest of St. Raymond Catholic Church Damba in Gusau, Zamfara State, has been abducted by bandits.

Father Mikah Suleiman was kidnapped early on Saturday from his residence in the Damba area of Gusau, according to Very Revd. Fr. Nuhu Iliya, the acting Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, in a statement.

“With heavy hearts, we inform the public of the abduction of our priest, Revd. Fr. Mikah Suleiman. This unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of today, Saturday, 22nd June 2024, at the Father’s rectory. Fr. Mikah serves as the Parish Priest of St. Raymond Catholic Church Damba, Gusau, Zamfara State,” the statement reads.

“We urge all the faithful and people of goodwill to fervently pray for his swift and safe release.

“We also entrust him to the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Priests, for his prompt release from the custody of his captors.”

Additionally, Zamfara State Police Command spokesperson Yazid Abubakar confirmed the abduction to Channels Television.

He mentioned that while the incident was not initially reported to the police, the command has mobilized a tactical squad to rescue Father Mikah from his abductors.

“Yes, the incident occurred early this morning; the Reverend Father was abducted from his residence. We were not notified immediately when it happened, but from what I gathered, he resides alone and not at the church,” he said.

“We have deployed our tactical squad to track down the kidnappers and ensure the safe rescue of the victim.”
