- Three individuals killed, one wounded in the attack
- Motive remains unclear; authorities to issue formal notice
Eko hot blog reports that Violence erupted at a border crossing in northern Benin late Tuesday, leaving three dead and one wounded in its wake, according to Mayor Gado Guidami.
The attack targeted a customs post near the Niger border, occurring around midnight, though no motive has been confirmed.
Benin border proximity to insurgency-hit Burkina Faso and Niger exposes it to the risk of cross-border violence from militant groups affiliated with al Qaeda and Islamic State.
Guidami recounted the incident, stating, “According to the information I received, three individuals came on a motorbike. They opened fire.
They killed two civilians and a soldier, and a second soldier was wounded.”
In response to the attack, a formal notice will be issued to inform the public, confirmed mayoral spokesperson Cherif Babio.
