Gunmen Attack Leaves Over 30 Dead In Plateau Village

  • Another Gunmen attack in Plateau State has left 30 dead in Tanknale village.

  • The attack is reported to have been orchestrated by Gunmen at about 11 pm on Tuesday roughly a day after another set of people were attacked and killed.

  • According to police spokesman DSP Alfred Alabo during the chase on the gunmen involve in the attack, the security personnel recovered four motorcycles, a Sharon vehicle, and various items utilized by the criminals.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a tragic incident, gunmen have mercilessly attacked Tanknale village in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, resulting in the loss of over 30 lives.

This brutal attack occurred around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, just one day after another violent assault took place in Fungzai and Kubwat communities within Mangu, claiming the lives of more than 40 individuals.

Plateau State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the harrowing event and stated that the State Commissioner of Police, Bartholomew Onyeka, had swiftly ordered the immediate deployment of armed personnel to the affected area.

Expressing deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident, the Commissioner emphasized the need to bring the culprits to justice.

According to Alabo, a distress call was received from a police officer stationed in Tanknale village, reporting the sound of sporadic gunfire emanating from a neighboring settlement.

Responding promptly, the Commissioner mobilized all available resources at the command’s disposal to the scene in order to apprehend the suspects.

Assisting in the operation was Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Bawa Sale, who leads the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Sale, alongside other security agencies, actively participated in the pursuit of the assailants, eventually forcing them to flee the area.

The police spokesman noted that during the chase, the security personnel recovered four motorcycles, a Sharon vehicle, and various items utilized by the criminals for their heinous activities, as the gunmen abandoned them in their haste.

“The culprits are currently on the run, but our officers are relentlessly pursuing them to ensure their capture and neutralization,” stated Alabo.

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police urged the affected residents to remain calm and peaceful, assuring them that security agencies have implemented effective strategies to apprehend the perpetrators.

He also implored the community members to provide any valuable information they may have to aid the ongoing investigations, emphasizing that prompt action will be taken in response.

As the authorities intensify their efforts to bring the culprits to justice and restore security to the region, the tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent challenges faced by communities in Plateau State.
