Gunmen Attack Local Govt Chairman In Benue, Kill 3 Policemen

At least three police officers lost their lives when gunmen stormed the residence of Alfred Avalumun Atera, chairman of Katsina-Ala local government area of Benue state.

Eko Hot Blog gathered also among those killed during the attack were civilians.

Catherine Anene, police public relations officer in the state, who confirmed the unfortunate incident, said the attack happened on Thursday morning

She, however, did not give comprehensive report of what transpired.

“Three policemen were killed and investigation has commenced,” she said in a statement.

Samuel Ortom, governor of the state, said the attack was an assassination attempt on the chairman of Katsina-Ala.

In a statement by Terver Akase, his spokesman, Ortom said those who perpetrated the heinous act must be brought to justice by security operatives.

The governor gave the people of Sankera and other parts of the state is word that his administration will continue to collaborate with security agencies with a view to finding last solution to criminal activities and insecurity in the state.

“Governor Ortom commiserates with families of those who lost their lives during the attack on Atera’s house and states that their killers will not escape justice,” the statement read.
