- Gunmen have kidnapped no fewer than 8 persons in Ekiti State.
EKOHOTBLOG reports that unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted 8 persons in Itapaji Ekiti in the Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
This online newspaper reports that the latest abduction in the state is coming barely a week after four persons were abducted by gunmen at Ayebode in the Ikole LGA.
While speaking on the latest abduction, an eyewitness, on Wednesday, told newsmen in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, that the assailants stormed a house located in the Itapaji community around 9:30pm on Tuesday, shot sporadically and whisked away the eight occupants of the building to an unknown destination.
The source further disclosed that the abductors have contacted the family in the early hours of Wednesday and demanded the sum of N50 million as ransom.
He said, “The men numbering seven came around 9.30pm with guns and surrounded the building. They fired gunshots sporadically.
“As the occupants of the house were coming out, they were grabbed and made to lie face down. They were later taken away into the bush. They were 14 initially, but six of them escaped into the bush.

“Earlier today (Wednesday), one of the family members received a call from the abductors demanding for a ransom of N50m,” the eyewitness disclosed.
He further alleged that the absence of police stations in Itapaji-Ayebode and Irele-Oke Ako axis was responsible for the increasing cases of abduction in the area, saying the nearest police station is in Ikole Ekiti, which was over 40 minutes drive to the troubled spots.
As gathered by EKOHOTBLOG, the incident was confirmed by the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, saying, “The command is working on that. Already, a special police operatives as well as the JTF have been deployed in that axis to ensure they rescue the victims and for possible arrest of the culprits.”
