EKO HOT BLOG reports that confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that efforts to secure Azuka’s release and apprehend the perpetrators have commenced.
“The Command has activated operational plans aimed at rescuing the Honourable Justice Azuka and arresting the kidnappers,” Ikenga stated. “We are following leads to ensure his safe return.”
This latest incident has heightened security concerns in the state, which has witnessed a surge in criminal activities.
In a related development, the police have arrested a suspected kidnapper, Chukwuma Obi, a 32-year-old resident of Umuagu Village, Igboukwu, Aguata Local Government Area. Obi is accused of attempting to extort ₦1.2 million through threats of abduction while falsely claiming to be a member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
According to Ikenga, Obi’s arrest was made by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Squad in Enugu-Ukwu. “The suspect sent a threatening message to his victim, demanding ransom to be paid into a specified account. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and is assisting in identifying other accomplices,” Ikenga revealed.
The police also referenced a similar case last month involving a couple arrested for sending threatening messages and extorting victims under the guise of kidnapping plans. Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
The spate of criminal activities has prompted calls for intensified security measures in Anambra State.
