Gunmen, yesterday, invaded the Akure Diocesan office of the Anglican Communion in Ondo State, killed the Bursar, Gabriel Abiodun, and took off with N500,000, less than an hour after Bishop of the Diocese, Rt Rev Simeon Borokini left the office, located at Alagbaka area of Akure metropolis.
About same time, another set of robbers snatched N500,000 from the pay master of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Abiodun as he alighted from his vehicle in the premises of the Ministry.
Top officials of the Ministry and other staff watched helplessly as the three armed robbers dispossessed the paymaster of the money within the premises and fled unmolested.
The 58-year-old church Bursar and father of four was said to have been trailed from a new generation bank where he had gone to cash money for church expenses.
He was shot in both legs by the bandit and gave up the ghost before he got to the hospital, after losing much blood.
When the robbers arrived the office in a 2002 model Toyota Corolla and requested for the money, he refused, which made one of the robbers to shoot his legs, collected the money and fled.
Police detectives invited by the church leaders removed his corpse and deposited same at the state Specialist Hospital in the Akure metropolis.
The Church Administrative Assistant Venerable, Blessing Aregbesola, confirmed the murder of the church’s bursar.
