Gunmen Kill Police, 3 Others in Aba
The Abia State Police Command reported the tragic death of Inspector Shehu Oyibo and three civilians, who were killed by armed men in Aba on Sunday.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the attack occurred at Ngwa Road by Mosque Junction, where Inspector Oyibo, part of the state’s Rapid Response Squad, was on patrol.
ASP Maureen Chinaka, the command’s Public Relations Officer, conveyed the details of the incident in a statement from the state Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie.
According to the statement, the armed assailants, travelling in an ash-coloured Sienna vehicle, ambushed the patrol team, initiating a gunfire exchange.
Despite the police operatives’ efforts to repel the attack, Inspector Oyibo and three civilians identified as Chika Godliveth, Onyenaturuchi Jonah, and Eniobong Godsgift Clement were fatally shot.

During the confrontation, two of the attackers were neutralized, while the others managed to escape with bullet wounds.
The police have launched an investigation to track down the fleeing suspects.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the mortuary.
The command assured the public of their safety, with officers deployed strategically to protect lives and property.
Citizens are encouraged to continue their daily activities without fear and to report any suspicious behaviour or individuals with bullet injuries to the nearest police station.
