Gunmen Strike Again In Anambra, Kill 3 Officers

  • Gunmen are said to have attacked a police station located in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that gunmen have yet again attacked a police station in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, resulting in the death of three police officers.

The spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, which took place on Saturday morning.

According to the police spokesperson, the gunmen, who arrived in large numbers, shot sporadically before gaining access to the police facility.

The attackers used improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and petrol bombs to attack buildings within the police station.

Ikenga, in a press release, expressed concern over the loss of lives and valuables as a result of the attack.

He called for calm and stated that the police were determined to deprive criminal elements of the space they require to perpetrate their evil acts and enhance the safety of life and property in the state.

In response to the attack, the Anambra State Police Command has reinforced security in the Idemili North area of the state. The incident at the Ogidi area command happened in the early hours of February 18, 2023, when three police officers lost their lives.

Ikenga added that the incident was being assessed and that police operations were still ongoing.

Anambra State has experienced several attacks in recent times. Just two days before the attack on the police station, gunmen attacked staff members of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who were on training in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area.

The state also witnessed the abduction of 15 corps members in Ihiala, who were later rescued.
