Hackers Stole $2m From Trump Reelection Fund – Wisconsin GOP
Hackers have reportedly stolen $2.3m from a funding account used in assisting the re-election of the incumbent president of the United States of America, Donal Trump.
State party chairman of Wisconsin, Andrew Hitt, who said they had suspected the activity on Thursday, October 22, said that the FBI is now investigating.
Wisconsin is a key swing state in the 2020 election, having been won by Trump in 2016 by just 23,000 votes.
Hitt said the hackers manipulated invoices from four vendors who were being paid to send out direct mail for the Trump campaign, adding that “there’s no doubt RPW is now at a disadvantage with that money being gone,”
He said that it appears the attack began as a phishing scam.
Both the president and Democratic candidate Joe Biden will campaign in the state on Friday. It will be Trump’s third visit to the state this week.
Meanwhile, an ABC News/ Washington Post poll released on Wednesday has Donald Trump leading by 17 points.
