EKO HOT BLOG reports that residents of the Igbooye community in Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Epe, Lagos, have strongly opposed the selection of Rasaq Musa as the Orijeru of Igbooye while the incumbent Oba Michael Gbadebo Onakoya is alive and reigning.
They have appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to reject the purported nomination of Musa by a faction of the Ewade Family. They warned that approving Musa’s nomination could lead to a breakdown of law and order, as it goes against the established community procedures for selecting an Oba.
One of the community leaders, who is also the secretary to the community and of the Erelu ruling house, Otunba Anthony Oguntimehin, at a press briefing held in Lagos said: “The four ruling houses nominated the current occupant of the stool, Oba Michael Gbadebo Onakoya and he became the Oba after the due process of selection.
The aggrieved residents in a save- our- soul letter to Sanwo-Olu dated May 24, 2023, also said that the second day of Eid-el-Adha(Ileya) has been purportedly fixed for the coronation day, with Ankara uniform already being distributed.
Mr. Wasiu Musa had a strong faith in the litigation process before he approached the High Court in 2008 to ventilate his grievances against the arrangement made by the community elders then and he cannot be in a hurry now to truncate the litigation process he commenced 17 years ago midway.”
