Epe Residents Appeal To Sanwo-Olu: Halt Alleged Improper Orijeru Appointment

  • Epe Residents Appeal To Sanwo-Olu: Halt Alleged Improper Orijeru Appointment.

  • Appeal to Governor Sanwo-Olu to reject Musa’s nomination to prevent potential unrest, emphasize adherence to community selection norms.

  • Legal dispute over Orijeru title ongoing; community awaits Supreme Court ruling to resolve leadership contention.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that residents of the Igbooye community in Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Epe, Lagos, have strongly opposed the selection of Rasaq Musa as the Orijeru of Igbooye while the incumbent Oba Michael Gbadebo Onakoya is alive and reigning.

They have appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to reject the purported nomination of Musa by a faction of the Ewade Family. They warned that approving Musa’s nomination could lead to a breakdown of law and order, as it goes against the established community procedures for selecting an Oba.

One of the community leaders, who is also the secretary to the community and of the Erelu ruling house, Otunba Anthony Oguntimehin, at a press briefing held in Lagos said: “The four ruling houses nominated the current occupant of the stool, Oba Michael Gbadebo Onakoya and he became the Oba after the due process of selection.

The aggrieved residents in a save- our- soul letter to Sanwo-Olu dated May 24, 2023, also said that the second day of Eid-el-Adha(Ileya) has been purportedly fixed for the coronation day, with Ankara uniform already being distributed.

Orijeru Appointment

Mr. Wasiu Musa had a strong faith in the litigation process before he approached the High Court in 2008 to ventilate his grievances against the arrangement made by the community elders then and he cannot be in a hurry now to truncate the litigation process he commenced 17 years ago midway.”

A legal practitioner and an indigene of Igbooye, Barrister Ganiyu Adebanjo said: “As far as I am concerned, legally speaking all that they are doing concerning one Abdulrasaq Musa being referred to as Orijeru-elect is a waste of time. He sued the current occupant of the stool in the person of Oba Michael Gbadebo Onakoya.
The matter had proceeded from the High Court to the Court of Appeal and is presently at the Supreme Court. Since the Apex Court has not decided on the merit of the case they need to wait for the matter to be appropriately terminated at the Supreme Court.’’
