Hamas said any resumption of ceasefire negotiations concerning the Gaza conflict should be based on existing plans, rather than initiating new rounds of discussions.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that International mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and the United States recently urged both Israel and Hamas to participate in talks scheduled for August 15, aiming to establish a ceasefire and secure the release of hostages.
Israel announced on Thursday that it would send negotiators to attend the meeting.
The negotiations had previously stalled due to the introduction of new terms to the framework proposed by U.S. President Joe Biden in May.
Last week, the mediators issued a joint statement suggesting that talks could take place in either Doha or Cairo on August 15.
They urged both parties “to close all remaining gaps and commence implementation of the deal without further delay,” emphasizing a “framework agreement” based on the principles outlined by President Biden on May 31.
This plan proposed initiating a full ceasefire and releasing many hostages.
In response, Hamas expressed a willingness to resume talks based on Biden’s earlier vision, calling for a continuation of negotiations from where they previously left off, rather than introducing new initiatives.

“The mediators should enforce this on the occupation (Israel) instead of pursuing further rounds of negotiations or new proposals that would provide cover for the occupation’s aggression and grant it more time to continue its genocide against our people,” Hamas stated.
Sources indicated that new Israeli conditions, such as screening displaced Palestinians returning to northern Gaza and control over the Philadelphi corridor bordering Egypt, have been key sticking points in the talks.
Hamas is reportedly open to resuming discussions based on the prior framework before these new conditions were added.
Amid rising tensions, recent events in Gaza, including the killing of Hamas’ political leader Ismail Haniyeh and a senior Hezbollah commander, have risked further escalation across the region.
The Israeli military recently ordered thousands of Palestinians in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, to relocate to designated “humanitarian zones” following an Israeli airstrike on a school building that killed over 70 people.
Fadl Naeem, head of al-Ahli Hospital where many casualties were taken, reported that approximately 70 victims were identified shortly after the strike, though many bodies were too disfigured for identification.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the school was being used as a military facility by Hamas and Islamic Jihad, which Hamas denies.
IDF spokesman Rear Adm Daniel Hagari mentioned that intelligence suggests a “high probability” that Ashraf Juda, commander of Islamic Jihad’s Central Camps Brigade, was at the school during the strike, though it remains unclear whether he was killed.
