July 14 has been institutionalised and is observed annually as the Lagos State Tree Planting Day. Environmental Health Officers across the 57 LGs/LCDAs and other MDAs will commemorate this annual event by the simultaneous planting of Trees, organization of Seminars and Sensitization programs across the State.
According to the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK), the Year 2022 Tree Planting Day theme is “In Harmony with Nature”, inspiring a sustainable relationship between humanity and nature.
Tree planting is a good way to be in sync with nature and it is gladdening to note that many Lagosians have become enthusiastic about tree planting in Lagos State.
Trees are astonishing, they capture carbon from the atmosphere, provide land cover, act as windbreak, emit beneficial gases, add aesthetic value, slow down greenhouse gas accumulation, protect and fertilize soils and harbour many of the planet’s animals, birds and insects.
The cultural, spiritual, and recreational role of trees makes them essential for the well-being of humans, hence, harmonizing the relationship between man and nature. All of these benefits make us more resilient, despite economic and environmental shocks.
Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria (EHOAN Lagos Chapter) hereby join all stakeholders, key players and lovers of a safe, sound, healthy and sustainable environment to mark and celebrate this laudable event.

It is expedient to know that safeguarding the environment is our collective responsibility, and effort must be made by individuals, families, communities, organizations and the government to mitigate against the impact of Climate change and other environmental stressors.
